Meet Cole

Hi, my name is Cole Szabo and I was once (and can still be) a person who gets in their own way. After a culmination of events in my life, I found myself realizing I needed to make a change. This experience led me to coaching and counseling for those with ADHD, Addictions and Parents navigating more calm, connected relationships.

In addition to lived experience, I pursued a degree in Organizational Leadership from Lipscomb University where I learned the psychology of “systems” and how the dynamics of roles impact relationships on a professional level and how to lead from a place of character and competence. After graduating I went on to pursue my license for alcohol and drug abuse counseling. As a practicing LADAC II since 2019, I help individuals and families understand the mechanisms of addiction, why coping with alcohol, drugs or other process addictions makes sense, heal from adverse experiences and learn how to move forward in an empowering way. In addition to my specialty in addictions, I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Polyvagal Theory and Attachment.

Over the years of practice, I frequently saw a correlation between addiction and ADHD. Commonly referred to as "Co-occurring", these diagnoses influence each other and compound the difficulties one experiences. In 2026, I sought specialized training from the ADD Coach Academy, an international program specifically designed for ADHD. The ADDCA certification is one of the few ICF (International Coaching Federation) and PAAC (Professional Association of ADHD Coaches) recognized accredited curricula in the world. As an accredited ADHD Coach, my philosophy of treating ADHD uses a strengths based approach that treats the whole person, not just the problem. I go beyond common Executive Functioning “tips and tricks” (although I do help with planning, organization, etc.) to help my clients understand how their brains work and help them “learn how they learn”.

Finally, as a systems thinker, I know that addiction and other mental health issues aren't created in a vacuum. Parents, spouses and family members play a role in the dysfunction AND support of the client. I wanted to be able to support parents and family members on their journey to healing and how to best support their loved one struggling with addiction and/or ADHD.

I obtained my Parent Coaching certification from The Jai Institute for Parenting in 2026. As a parent of two children, this training and credential has transformed and deepened my understanding of attachment and how to create or maintain a secure attachment while having hard conversations, setting limits and boundaries or supporting resilience in kids, teens and adult children.
